DESCRIPTION
The 1960’s heralded the arrival of the ‘hippy era’ into South Africa. The suburb of the Bluff seemed to be a focal point for its establishment and it was here that an innocent youth became drawn into this arena of anti-establishment principles.
This tale portrays the downward cycle of this youth through the various stages of rebellion, into the fully Fledged circle of drug addicted, alcoholic dependant vagrancy.
Drugs, alcohol, underground music, long hair and patched jeans were all part of a mode of conduct that would govern his life for many years. The depth to which he would sink in this lifestyle would prove to be devastating and any recovery from the addictions and the results thereof seemed impossible.
The lives affected on this path of destruction were to be far-reaching. Human efforts to restore what was lost were fruitless and no manner of counselling, guidance, or hare-brained endeavour would bring about any successful conclusion. The end result was inevitable until something miraculous happened, and a turn-around one could only dream of transpired.
There was a recovery, and it came about in a remarkable way. This reformation of a life, broken and destitute, could only be described as miraculous but that wasn’t the end of it. In fact it was a new beginning that set a sequence of events in motion that was astounding to say the least.
